Made from a distinctive blend of 45% Barbera, 45% Syrah and the rest Grenache and dollops of several other grapes, the medium-bodied 2012 reveals a dark ruby color as well as a big, sweet kiss of peppery red and black currants, sweet and sour cherries, new saddle leather and spice box. Winemaker: HeatherMunden

HeatherMundenHeather Munden had her mind set on a career as a chef until a public lecture by Robert Mondavi inspired her to pursue winemaking. After graduating from the University of California, Davis, Heather began her career as the Lab Director of Michel-Schlumberger Winery in Dry Creek Valley. She went on to gain international experience as a winery consultant in the Puglia region of Italy, and joined winemaking teams in Australia, Chile, and New Zealand. After five years at Hartford Family Winery in Sonoma County, Heather joined the St. Francis team of winemakers in the fall of 2007 and held the title of Artisan Winemaker until 2013. In this position, Heather was responsible for the small-production, single-vineyard wines available only at the winery and through the wine club. Under Heather’s direction, the winery received its first 95-point wine score. She was also instrumental in updating the winery’s culinary program. In 2009, Heather started Fama Wines, where she crafts her “Hudson Vineyard” Chardonnay.

Heather currently makes wine at Breaux Winery in Virginia.

Charity: DogIsMyCoPilot

For this edition of FlyWine, a portion of sales will be donated to Dog Is My CoPilot, a 501(c)3 approved animal rescue organization dedicated to saving animals’ lives by facilitating air transport for abandoned and abused cats and dogs to areas where they have better chances of adoption. The organization is based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and currently rescues animals in ten states.
